​Drake set was used for pvp with mages. Set itself gives you m.def. Additionally when overenchanted on/over +6 it gives you more m.def.

Its simple, evasion in classic is nerfed to point that its not worth to use light armor. Everybody go heavy, daggers, tyrants, even archers, but they somehow prefer Drake Leather, i dont know why, maybe its fashion
